The short version
Kava is a traditional plant-based beverage made from the root of the kava plant (Piper methysticum), with deep roots in Pacific Island social culture. It is not alcohol. At Tribal Kava Lounge in West Palm Beach, we serve kava as traditional-style shells and as creamy, dessert-style crafted kava drinks designed for first-timers.
Where kava comes from
Kava has a long history of communal drinking in places like Fiji, Vanuatu, Tonga, and other Pacific communities. The plant is grown for its root, which is traditionally prepared into a shared drink for gatherings — not as a cocktail bar ingredient, but as a social ritual.
How kava is prepared
Traditionally, kava root is ground and mixed with water, then strained. The result is an earthy, bitter botanical beverage. Modern lounges often keep the root tradition while offering flavored formats so new guests are not forced to start with the hardest sip first.
What it tastes like
Raw traditional kava is often described as earthy, peppery, or “dirt smoothie” energy. That is normal for the plant — and exactly why we built crafted kava drinks (Banana Pudding, Tres Leches, Blue Razz Coconut, Dubai Chocolate Pistachio, and more). Flavor first. No mystery menu energy.
Kava at Tribal Kava Lounge
- Kava shells — traditional-style format. $2 Tuesdays: single shells $2 from 2–5 PM.
- Crafted kava drinks — creamy, dessert-style drinks (typically $10).
- Non-alcoholic lounge vibe with free Wi‑Fi, free parking, pool tables, and multiple seating sections.
What kava is not
Kava is not liquor. We do not market it as medicine, a treatment, or a guaranteed-effect product. People report different experiences, and experiences can vary. We focus on culture, flavor, hospitality, and responsible adult use.
Responsible use
Do not mix kava with alcohol or other substances. If you are pregnant, nursing, taking medications, or have health concerns, speak with a qualified professional before using kava. Products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
